SEPULTURA Guitarist Lends Hand On SILENT CIVILIAN’s Cover Of SLAYER Classic

SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser recently took time away from recording with ASESINO at Undercity Studios in Los Angeles to record a guest lead on SILENT CIVILIAN’s cover of the SLAYER track “War Ensemble”. The song is set to appear on an as-yet-untitled SLAYER tribute album, which is set for a June 6 release through Mediaskare. Other bands set to be featured on the CD include NEW DEAD RADIO (“South of Heaven”), THE BURNING ROOM (“Mandatory Suicide”), ASESINO (featuring ex-FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares), DEATH BY STEREO, ON BROKEN WINGS, SCARS OF TOMORROW, THE ESOTERIC, COLD WAR, THE TASTE OF BLOOD, CONTRA, THE HUMAN ABSTRACT, IN THIS MOMENT, SUICIDE SILENCE and A DIFFERENT SELF.

SILENT CIVILIAN is the new band featuring former SPINESHANK vocalist Jonny Santos. The group’s debut album, “Rebirth of the Temple”, is scheduled for release on March 21 via Mediaskare.

MACHINE HEAD Cover METALLICA’s ‘Battery’ For ‘Master Of Puppets’ Tribute

MACHINE HEAD drummer Dave McClain has posted the following message on the group’s official web site:

“What’s up fuckers?!! Thought I’d take a minute to fill you all in on what we’ve been up to this week.

“So Kerrang! magazine is doing a tribute to METALLICA’s ‘Master of Puppets’ ? being that it’s the 20th anniversary of one of the most kick-ass and influential albums in metal history ? where they’ll have a different band covering each song from the album, and they asked MACHINE HEAD to be a part of it. We happily accepted, and chose ‘Battery’ as the song we’d like to cover.

‘Master of Puppets’ is an album that we all hold in very high regard. Even at the ripe age of 20, it’s still a mainstay of our music ‘rotation’ backstage before shows and while getting drunk afterward, so we really wanted to do the song justice and play it as close to the original version as possible.

“Me, I have to give it up to Lars [Ulrich, METALLICA drummer]… I know he seems to be everyone’s whipping boy these days but, learning the tune (not that I didn’t respect him before) was not only a lot of fun, but quite a learning experience too. Some of the shit he does is so off the wall and outside the norms of conventional drumming… think I’ll have to be stealing some of that for the new album!

“Anyway, I think I can speak for the whole band when I say that learning this tune together really sparked a new fire in all of us to continue to challenge ourselves as musicians on this new album. Stay tuned for some exclusive video of the recording session too!!”

MACHINE HEAD had previously recorded a cover of METALLICA’s “Battery” in 2003 as part of a poll they conducted where they asked the members of the group’s official forum to list three songs that they would like to hear MACHINE HEAD cover, after which the band picked the 10 most interesting requests they felt they could do justice to. All of the forum members then voted on the final three, with the most-requested entries being given the “MACHINE HEAD treatment.” In addition to “Battery”, MACHINE HEAD covered FAITH NO MORE’s “Jizzlobber” and EXODUS“Toxic Waltz”. None of the recordings were officially released.

Jim Carrey con Cannibal Corpse

He aquí otro video de YouTube.

ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian will be taking part in an online chat on Monday, January 30 beginning at 3:00 p.m. EST / noon PST at AnthraxCDC.com. “It’s an open forum so he can answer all your questions about life, love and the pursuit of metal,” reads a posting on the group’s web site.

As previously reported, ANTHRAX members Frankie Bello (bass), Charlie Benante (drums) and Scott Ian (guitar) got together in Chicago (where Benante lives with his wife) in early December to jam on new material. According to Ian, rough “skeletons” of three new songs came out of these sessions, with the band scheduled to continue writing throughout the coming months.

ANTHRAX completed a 13-date U.S. tour on Saturday (Jan. 21) in Hollywood, California. Sitting behind the kit for the last two dates was SHADOWS FALL’s Jason Bittner after regular ANTHRAX skinsman Charlie Benante was forced to leave the tour early to attend to his wife Sandra, who gave birth to the couple’s first child, Mia Charley Benante, on Jan. 19.

Guitarraras

Reader comment: Cliff Marsiglio says,

If you are going to link to the Young Chuck Norris vid — ya gottsta link to the video that this draws a great deal of inspiration: Link. It made the rounds earlier last year, so I’m sure a good deal of your readers have seen it, but maybe not all. I hesitate to call it parody as the original, while a serious song was just pure cheese and apparently the singer sees nothing funny or ironic about it [1] — at the same time, he seems like an honestly good guy.
